The Sabor Dance School is the “nerve
center” of the group and specializes
in offering high quality Latin dance
instruction.
Sabor has brought together some of Bermuda's best instructors,
performers and choreographers with an aim to, through the use of a carefully developed curriculum, produce strong, confident, competent and fun-loving dancers. Frequently Sabor dancers are invited to perform and offer instruction to people throughout Bermuda and
abroad.
Sabor has developed a warm embracing culture which is inclusive of everyone. Students are inspired towards enriching and rewarding self expression while developing their dancing skills. The school also offers comfortable dance apparel, which includes t-shirts, foot wear, sweat tops and various performance and instructional DVDs.
The Sabor Dance School, located in the purpose-built dance studios at the Berkeley Cultural Center (the Old Berkeley Institute) , offers an expanding class schedule providing instruction in several Latin dances, including salsa, cha cha, merengue, bachata, rueda, Argentine tango and featured workshops. Classes are offered to students of all levels and provide a fun and exciting way to spend any afternoon or evening. You can relax and enjoy beautiful music and dance, taught by instructors who have a passion and a strong technical understanding for these Latin dance forms.
All classes have been designed to develop dancers of all levels. If you are unsure of which class you should
attend, one of our instructors will assist you with placement.
Registration
Two Ways To Register!
- Online. Use our online form during registration periods to register instantly and save time!
- In person. Arrive at Sabor Dance School 15 mins before your scheduled class time to complete and submit your registration form.
We have an open and closed registration system:
Open classes are indicated on the schedule and include Beginners 1 (formerly Introduction to Salsa) and Introdution to Tango. With
these classes you can start at any time - anyone can arrive and take a class at the drop-in rate of $15 per
class, or use one of the Sabor Flavour Punch Cards. This is our most flexible option for students that have
scheduling constraints or who may travel frequently.
Closed classes allow the opportunity for students to progress at the same time together as new students will
not be able to join these classes after the second week of each new period. Anyone wishing to join after this
period will be encouraged to take a private lesson to catch up (see below). All closed classes will run in 7-week cycles (with the exception of advanced classes). After 7 weeks, you will be able to advance to the next level at your instructors’ discretion.
- Closed classes reduce the need to repeat material for new students;
- Allows consistent students to progress much quicker;
- Builds a sense of camaraderie among students who progress together within the group, as well as between the instructor and students;
- Allows the instructor time to get to know and understand students who attend classes regularly, making teaching easier, more efficient, and fun!
- Encourages students to “stick with it” and commit to learning a new dance; the only way to realizing the long-term physical, emotional and social benefits that dancing can bring.
- At the end of the 7-week cycle, students have the opportunity to remain at the same class day & time while continuing to progress on to the next level without causing scheduling conflicts.
Students can take as many classes as they like each week as long as they are at their same dance level.
Having trouble deciding which class to take?
Intro to Salsa. For the absolute beginner; students with no social dance or Tango experience.
Beginners 1. For the student who has completed and mastered all 7 weeks of Intro to Salsa.
Beginners 2. For the student who has completed and mastered all 7 weeks of Beginners 1.
Beginners 3. For the student who has completed all 7 weeks of Beginners 2. It's vital to spend more time mastering skills at the three fundamental beginner levels before moving forward to the Intermediate classes.
Intermediate 1,2,3. Progress in the same manner as the Beginner classes. Intermediate classes are faster-paced, and very little time is spent on teaching basic skills. Speak to your instructor if you are unsure how to proceed.
Rueda Level 1. For the Salsa student who has completed and mastered Beginners 3. This is the Cuban-style group salsa dance, Casino de Rueda. No basic skills are taught. This is a 14-week class.
Rueda Level 2. For the Rueda student who has completed and mastered all 14 weeks of Rueda Level 2. This class is fast-paced and no basic skills are taught. This class provides performance opportunites at local events.
Ladies Styling. For ladies who has completed a minimum of 7 weeks of Beginners 2. Learn body movement, footwork, shines, and other ways to inject flavour, style and energy into your dancing.
Intro to Tango. For the absolute beginner; students with no social dance or Tango experience.
Tango Level 2. For the student who has completed and mastered all 7 weeks of Intro to Tango.
Tango Level 3. For the student who has completed last semester's Tango Level 2.
Purchasing of a series of classes is encouraged. Our Flavour Cards are available in a number of different denominations, $55 for 4 classes, $90 for 7 classes and $115 for 10 classes.
Classes can also be purchased individually at the cost of $15 per class.
Please note: The former Intro to Salsa class is now called Beginners 1. The former Beginners 1 class is now Beginners 2, and during the next cycle in November, we will introduce Beginners 3. All beginner dancers will be asked to complete two seven week courses (Beginners 1 and Beginners 2), before registering for the more advanced classes. During these classes you will be taught
the fundamental principles of salsa, which are guaranteed to assist with the development of a strong
foundation. All beginner classes run for seven weeks.
Private classes are one-on-one lessons with the instructor of your choice. You can use private classes to
make up for missed classes, review and practice skills, move further ahead and at a quicker pace, and recieve personalized feedback about their dancing. When purchasing your Flavour punch cards for regular classes, you have the option of also purchasing a private lesson (at the same time) at a discounted rate (see below).

Rates
Group Classes:
- 1 Class/Drop-In $15
- 4 Class Card $55 (with one private class $110)
- 7 Class Card $90 (with one private class $145)
- 10 Class Card $115 (with one private class $170)
- Youth Classes $125 per term
Private Classes:
- Private Class Card (5 private classes) $275
- $65 for one person per hour
- $45 per person per hour for two people; or
- $35 per person per hour for three or more people
